Madonna Louise Ciccone, better known as Madonna, was born on the 16th of August in 1958, thus today is her 54th birthday. The all-rounder is supposedly one of the “25 most powerful women of the past century”, selling more than 300 million records worldwide and constantly reinventing both her music and her image. Madonna was born in Bay City, Michigan, and at the age of 19 she moved to the Big Apple, to pursue a career in modern dance.
Her first album, which was named after herself, was released in 1983 by Sire Records. Later on songs as “Like a Virgin”, “Material Girl”, “Papa Don’t Preach”, “Like a Prayer”, “Ray of Light”, “Beautiful Stranger”, “Vogue”, “Frozen” and “Music”, among others, converted the dancer to a global super star. Decades later, the singer is considered to be the best-selling female artist of the 20th century, setting milestone after milestone.
Currently Madonna is on her ninth concert tour, named “MDNA”. The tour is supposed to end on the 22nd of December in Córdoba, Argentina. Today she is taking a time-out, after performing in Oslo, Norway, yesterday and stopping next in Zurich, Switzerland, on Saturday.
